The Chaplaincy Service at the LGI.
Coming into hospital can be a difficult and stressful time. Patients and relatives with or without a formal faith, may experience needs and anxieties which are spiritually and emotionally unsettling. These feelings can affect your normal sense of well-being and wholesness, as well as your ability to cope with illness or injury.
"Spiritual Care Givers" or Chaplains as they are more widely known are available to help those with spiritual and emotional needs and to bring comfort to the bereaved.
They offer a friendly ear to everyone, especially those struggling with personal problems and will encourage patients and their families, if they wish to share their deep feelings and anxieties.
Religious Support
Opportunities are provided for anyone who wishes to attend Worship in the Chapel, to see a Chaplain individually on the wards or to receive the Christian Sacraments of Holy Communion Anointing or other appropriate services. Support is also given through prayer and by talking through faith issues.
The Chaplaincy Role
The Chaplaincy provides a totally confidential and non-judgemental service for patients, their relatives and staff members in each Trust hospital, regardless of race, religion, creed, culture or sexuality.
The Chaplaincy is interdenonimational and multi-faith. When required the representatives of all mainstream religions in the City can also be contacted by the Chaplaincy. Members of the Chaplaincy Team are available at any time during the day and provide an out of hours on-call service, for special emergencies.
