Visiting times on the Neuro High Dependency Unit.

The visiting times are:-

1200 until 2pm

4pm until 8pm

(Except on Thursdays, vistiing is only 4pm until 8pm)

These times give visitors six hours of visiting with a two hour rest period inbetween. During this rest period we close the curtains, turn down the lights and respect the calm and quiet atmosphere we are trying to achieve. We hope you can too.

We do need you to respect our two to a bed rule. Health and safety precautions dictate that allowing more than 2 visitors to each bedspace could constitute a fire hazard. It is also important to respect the privacy and space of others who are being nursed in the high dependency unit.

The visiting times on the unit apply 7 days a week. We recognise that some people can not visit at these times and we can be flexible if there is a genuine reason why you need to visit outside the structured hours. This needs to be discussed with the nurse who is caring for your relative/friend or the nurse in charge.

The rest period was introduced into the neurosciences environment after studies showed open visiting hours allowed no time for the patients to rest and as a consequence were often being over stimulated. It is also important to consider and respect the needs of other patients who may require a rest period.
